Cadwell Park’s famous ‘mountain’ proved unforgiving on a tough Bank Holiday weekend for the Hawk Racing team in the latest round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship.
Charlie Nesbitt was again showing good pace in practice before a fall at the bottom of the Lincolnshire circuit’s unique feature - from which bikes often launch into a jump - left him unable to take part in final qualifying.
Fresh from his triple podium success at Thruxton, Nesbitt was determined to race despite sustaining ankle injuries in the incident and climbed back on the MasterMac Honda by Hawk just a few hours later.
Unfortunately the weekend got no better as he slid off the track in the opening race and suffered a spectacular crash after getting airborne on the mountain in race three.
With a retirement in the second race and Josh Owens sidelined by injury for the weekend, it meant the team went home empty-handed.
Team manager Steve Hicken said:
“After such a brilliant round at Thruxton, it’s a pretty tough reminder of the highs and lows you can experience in racing.
“Charlie has already shown what a great talent he is but after being declared fit to ride after the first crash, but not 100%, it just didn’t go our way.
“I also want to thank the crew because they put in a huge effort to get the bike out on track for all three races.
“We’ll regroup and look forward to a better weekend next time out.”
We wish Charlie a quick recovery and hope that Josh is back riding with us soon.
The next Bennetts BSB round takes place at Oulton Park from 15-17 September.
