A successful meeting for Nesbitt on the MasterMac Honda by Hawk Racing saw him cement his place as the leading rookie in the rider standings by taking points in all three races for the second successive round.
Ending the weekend in style by coming home ninth in the final race, to add to 11th place finishes in the earlier two races, he moved above the experienced Peter Hickman to 12th in the championship overall.
For Josh Owens, on the Crendon Honda by Hawk Racing, the weekend started well. Despite treacherous conditions in a very wet opening race, he put in a strong performance to finish in the points in 15th.
Unfortunately he fell in race two and the crash was the cause of a technical issue that also brought his challenge in the third to a premature end.
Reflecting on the weekend, Charlie said:
“I enjoyed it. It was another meeting where I got into battles with some great riders who’ve been doing this a lot longer than I have. I feel like I’m learning all the time and the whole team is making good progress as the season goes on.”
Josh said:
“The conditions in the first race were the worst we’ve had in Bennetts BSB for a while and that made the track an even bigger challenge, so I was pretty happy to finish in the points. Obviously the fall on Sunday was disappointing and cost me both races but I’m already looking forward to the next round.”
Team manager Steve Hicken added:
“Sunday was disappointing for Josh but on balance we had a positive weekend. Both he and Charlie are competing in a very strong field and doing a good job collecting points on a regular basis. It’s great to see Charlie moving up the standings and I know that he, Josh and the whole team will be doing everything we can to pick up some even stronger results over the remainder of the season.”
The latest Bennetts BSB meeting was meant to be the conclusion of a busy fortnight for everyone at Hawk, as we had been due to compete at the Southern 100 road racing event on the Isle of Man following the last round at Snetterton.
However, as some readers will know, the Southern 100 was cancelled after the tragic deaths of a rider and volunteer marshal as a result of an accident during a practice session. Everyone at Hawk would like to send our condolences to all those affected.
Bennetts BSB continues at Thruxton in Hampshire from 11-13 August.
