Lee Jackson and Charlie Nesbitt each delivered three outstanding performances for MasterMac Honda to secure their best results of the season over the weekend - including Hawk Racing’s first double podium finish in 20 years.
The duo turned in a series of brilliant displays as the Bennetts British Superbike Championship visited the uniquely challenging Cadwell Park circuit in Lincolnshire over the weekend.
Having established a rapid pace in free practice, they laid down a marker for a strong weekend in qualifying, with Nesbitt securing third on the grid and Jackson starting fourth for the opening race. They did even better in the race itself, with Jackson challenging hard for the win before coming home second and Nesbitt third at the chequered flag.
They were the first podium finishes for both riders this season and it was the first time since 2004 that Hawk Racing has occupied two spots on the BSB podium.
The two races on Bank Holiday Monday brought more success. With Jackson starting on pole position in the opening sprint race, he again found himself competing at the front before eventually finishing a close third, with Nesbitt not far behind the lead group in fourth.
For the final race, it was Nesbitt’s turn to start from pole position after setting the fastest lap in race two. The two team mates enjoyed a battle with each other for much of the race before Jackson crossed the line in third to complete a hat-trick of podiums, with Nesbitt again in fourth.
The team’s appearances on the podium weren’t limited to Bennetts BSB, with Tim Neave finishing an impressive third on his MasterMac Honda to continue his strong form in the Pirelli National Superstock with Moneybarn Vehicle Finance championship.
Team manager Steve Hicken said:
“It was a fantastic weekend for the whole team.
“Lee and Charlie rode brilliantly from the start and their performance in qualifying was the foundation for the double podium in the first race, which goes down as one of the best results in the team’s history.
“Their performance in the other two races was almost as good and, with Tim getting a podium in the Superstock as well, it’s a weekend we’ll remember for a long time.
“Of course we now want to use it as the springboard for more success but I must take the opportunity to congratulate the riders, the whole crew and our sponsors on delivering such a brilliant sequence of results.”
The team will be on the hunt for more points and podium places when Bennetts BSB heads to Oulton Park in the North West from 13-15 September.
